NCSS Leaders Present at National Psychiatry Conference
Leaders from the National Center for START Services® and the START network presented at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry on October 20-25 in Chicago.
NCSS Medical Director Dr. Jen McLaren and NCSS Clinical Director Dr. Jill Hinton were joined by START Team Medical Directors Dr. Emaya Anbalagan (CA East Bay and CA San Andreas) and Dr. Katie Stratigos (NY Regions 3 and 4).
They were able to share their expertise on mental health for people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities at this annual event, which draws more than 4,000 psychiatrists and other allied professionals from all over the world, both in-person and virtually.
Dr. McLaren and Dr. Hinton presented in several sessions. Dr. McLaren was chair for a Clinical Perspectives entitled "Supporting the Journey: Helping Youth with Intellectual Developmental Disorder Successfully Transition Into Adulthood." Dr. Hinton presented on "Loss and Grief in Youth with Intellectual Developmental Disorder Going through Transitions."
In another Clinical Perspectives titled "Suicide in Youth with ASD and Intellectual Developmental Disorder with a Focus on Assessment and Interventions," Dr. Hinton presented as part of the panel and Dr. McLaren served as a discussant. Dr. McLaren also hosted a Clinical Consultation Breakfast on "Navigating the Complexities of Deprescribing in Child Psychiatry."
Each of these presentations created opportunity to share knowledge based in foundations of the START model.
