The Stories of START
This year’s SNTI theme focuses on START’s on-going journey of innovation in supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities through our collective stories. Stories are the foundation of history and highlight START’s evidence-based approach to improving well-being through collaboration, training, and research. Stories help us understand ourselves and others which leads to cultural humility and respect for all identities. Stories inform us and help us make good decisions as we adapt to ever-changing systems. Stories allow us to share our values and work together toward a shared vision. And finally, stories can be a tool of social change when we work as a community to bring about inclusion and belonging for all. Everybody has a story - so this year, come to SNTI prepared to listen, learn, and share the stories of START.
2025 Learning Objectives
- Attendees will explore how shared narratives contribute to START's evidence-informed approach, enhancing knowledge of best practices and research in IDD-MH services.
- Attendees will engage in collaborative storytelling to build community, foster inclusion, and deepen mutual understanding, contributing to relationship-building and collaboration.
- Attendees will learn to use stories strategically to drive social change, demonstrating how storytelling aligns with START values and supports innovative, inclusive practices.
