Presenter: Laura Bousquet,FASD United Family Navigator ®
All NOTS live Q&A events are held via Zoom from 1:00-2:00 ET / 12:00-1:00 CT / 11:00-12:00 MT / 10:00-11:00 PT.
Description:
Fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) is often overlooked in mental health and intellectual and developmental disability (IDD) systems, yet it profoundly shapes how people experience stress, relationships, and crisis. This training will provide practical insight into understanding FASD through a biopsychosocial lens, offering concrete strategies to reduce escalation and promote wellness.
The session will move beyond misconceptions of “challenging behavior” to reveal how neurodevelopmental and social impacts influence mental health and crisis experiences. Participants will learn how to tailor supports by assessing person-specific needs in the moment, recognizing that what works one day may not work the next.
Through safe, person-centered practices that integrate caregiver and self-advocate perspectives, attendees will gain tools to create environments where people feel understood, respected, and supported. The session will also introduce national resources from FASD United to strengthen ongoing support across community and clinical settings.
This event is part of the National Online Training Series and is available by subscription from the National Center for START Services®. Each month, the NOTS includes a pre-recorded presentation and a live Q&A session with presenters, available to subscribers only. You must be subscribed to our list to receive the recording and access the live Q&A.
