Northeast Delta Dental Foundation supports expanded access to disability-competent oral health training
The Northeast Delta Dental Foundation has awarded $30,000 to the University of New Hampshire Institute on Disability to support the dissemination of Responsive Practice: Providing Effective Oral Health Care to Adults with Disabilities.
This free, virtual training helps oral health professionals build the knowledge and skills needed to deliver accessible, disability-competent care. Available online and on demand, this module explores oral health disparities experienced by adults with disabilities, common barriers to care, and practical strategies for creating more responsive clinical experiences. The funding will help expand awareness and participation in the training, so more dentists, dental hygienists, and dental care teams can strengthen care for patients with disabilities.
“We recognize that true health equity is impossible without addressing the unique barriers faced by adults with disabilities,” explained Jennifer Beyer, Senior Manager, Corporate Giving, Northeast Delta Dental. “To achieve our mutual mission of providing access to oral health care to all, it is essential that we collaborate with organizations like UNH Institute on Disability. Together we can help ensure that all patients receive the effective treatment they deserve.”
“We are grateful to Northeast Delta Dental Foundation for investing in a healthier, more inclusive future,” said Emilia Poehlman, program manager for the NH Disability and Health Program. “Partnerships like this help ensure more healthcare professionals are prepared to provide care where every person is welcomed, respected, and able to thrive.”
The training was developed under the New Hampshire Disability and Health Program at the Institute on Disability, which improves the health of people with disabilities in New Hampshire through evidence-based strategies that increase access to preventive health care and encourage healthy behaviors.
