IOD to Help Develop Toolkit for Doulas Caring for Women with IDD

Partnership with Georgetown and Brandeis will enhance maternal care for women with intellectual and developmental disabilities

The UNH Institute on Disability is excited to share a new research project, in collaboration with researchers from Georgetown National Center for Cultural Competence and the Lurie Institute for Disability Policy at Brandeis University, to enhance the maternal care for women with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) through the creation of toolkit for doulas and healthcare providers.

IOD Research Professor Joan B. Beasley will serve as an advisor on the project.

About the project:

This project will develop and disseminate a comprehensive toolkit to support doulas and healthcare professionals in caring for women with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) through labor and delivery.

Who’s involved?

A diverse group of people will inform the creation of the toolkit, including:

  • professional doulas,
  • lay-doulas,
  • people with IDD who have experienced pregnancy and childbirth, and
  • other healthcare professionals

Thank you to the WITH Foundation for funding this important work.
