Professional Background:

Alyse Scura has had a love of learning throughout her life.  As she grew up on Long Island, NY, she began her career in the field of developmental disabilities and mental health over 19 years ago. During these years, while working with both youth and adults, she has provided a comprehensive array of services to many different populations and in many different environments, such as, schools, group homes, residential treatment centers, day programs and community-based services.

Alyse studied Human Development and Family Relations at SUNY Plattsburgh, followed by a double Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology and Mental Health Counseling from Teacher’s College at Columbia University. Alyse is currently a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York, a certified Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapist, certified in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and certified to complete juvenile sexual offender risk assessments.

Following completion of her master’s degrees, Alyse was eager to work in a fast pace environment while also building her clinical expertise. She began to work in the residential field with adolescents in upstate NY. This position quickly allowed her to grasp her passion for the field and the individuals she supported and led her to Administrative positions within the field, supervising direct care staff and clinical staff, and eventually led to a move to Massachusetts to continue working with adolescents as the Assistant Director of Clinical Services.

In 2017, Alyse made the decision to return to New York with her increased knowledge and experience and served individuals with intellectual disabilities and co-existing mental health concerns and their systems, as the Clinical Director for NYSTART Long Island. Alyse also opened her own part-time private practice in 2017 providing individual therapy focused on adults and adolescents. Alyse has recently had the pleasure of joining the National Center for START Services team as a Project Manager.
