Understanding the Impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences on Individual and Community Health

Three Children SmilingChildhood trauma has a lasting impact on both our emotional and physical health.

This interactive training will feature research on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and the impact that it has on children and adults.

Participants will be encouraged to reflect on how ACEs have impacted their own classrooms and communities. Time will be spent in small group discussion to plan for prevention and intervention strategies that are practical and realistic.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:

UNH students, UNH faculty, and community members are encouraged to attend.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER:

Becky PartonBecky Parton, MSW, LICSW is employed by the Dartmouth Trauma Interventions Research Center, combining her backgrounds of mental health practice and child protection work. She is the project coordinator for the NH Adoption Preparation and Preservation project, working closely with the NH Division for Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) to provide training and consultation to DCYF and mental health providers statewide.

Becky previously worked in community mental health providing family and child therapy. She is trained in Child Parent Psychotherapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

Becky is the co-chair of the Children’s Issues Committee for NH NASW. She is a Teaching Lecturer for Plymouth State University’s undergraduate Social Work program and an Adjunct Professor for UNH’s online MSW program.
