New Clinical Sites Offer Rich Training Opportunities for NH-ME LEND Trainees

Julie Smith

Every year, NH-ME LEND trainees participate in 100 hours of clinical education and training. Our more than 20 clinical partners are key to providing real life experiences in medical and educational settings in New Hampshire and Maine. This year we welcome four new sites.

Strafford Learning Center, located in Southeastern NH, provides direct therapeutic and educational services as well as consultation in area school districts. They also have their own center-based, regional programs for students who are not finding success in their local school. We welcome Assistant Executive Director Marta Kilrain and appreciate her vision to extend a menu of valuable observational experiences in several settings. Trainees may shadow pediatric therapists, special educators, case managers, group counseling services, behavior consultation and/or nursing services.

Step Forward is a community-based center in Milford, ME. They offer inclusive preschool as well as home and community-based services.  Founded in 2021 by Connor Archer, this program strives to provide an environment where all children can grow, thrive, and succeed through developmentally appropriate practices. Their program is based on the belief that children with special needs benefit greatly from typical peer role models, and play is the foundation for growth and learning for children of all ages.

We welcome Jessica Molloy, president of the WHILDE School and Private Practice in Yarmouth, ME.  At the WHILDE School, everything starts with discovery and understanding each student fully. Their house program offers a specialized homeschool experience grounded in one powerful idea: when you truly understand a child, you can build an education that fits who they are. They create personalized learning plans based on each student’s strengths, learning styles, and executive function needs. The WHILDE private practice conducts evaluations and coaching for children and parents.

Trainees also have a new opportunity to observe an inclusive early childhood program in Portland, ME, at Shunk Child Care and to learn how owner Sasha Shunk and her dedicated staff practice inclusion and provide accommodations to all learners in their space.

Welcome to our new partners and thank you for providing rich learning opportunities for our LEND trainees.
