RENEW FAQs

RENEW is designed for transition-aged youth (14-26) who are experiencing challenges in their home, school, and community. RENEW works best for youth who have a need to be in charge of their own process and support system. RENEW is often used with youth who have not engaged in or responded to previous supports.

Anyone who connects well with youth who have complex life challenges. People who already spend a lot of time supporting this population are good candidates. We’ve seen administrators, teachers, paraprofessionals, mental health providers, social workers and many more professionals excel at using the model with youth.

RENEW facilitators spend an average of two hours a week on RENEW activities. This includes one hour a week working with youth, one hour a month in 1:1 coaching, and time for data collection, review, and follow up.

As with any program or practice, certain structures and systems need to be in place from the outset and supported over time. And because RENEW involves youth who may be socially and emotionally vulnerable, it's critical that implementers make a strong commitment to sustaining high-quality practice. The RENEW team at the IOD can meet with you and conduct a readiness assessment, then help you develop a customized action plan. Reach out to the RENEW team at UNH IOD! We can begin by providing a RENEW Overview presentation to you and your team. A RENEW trainer would guide your team through the RENEW model's features, goals, strategies, system requirements, and research base. Then we can continue to support your success throughout all phases of installation and implementation. For more information, visit our Get Started page.
