Congenital heart defects are the most common birth defects. Nearly one of every 100 babies is born with a congenital heart defect, approximately 40,000 per year (source: CHPHC).
The New England Critical Congenital Heart Disease (CCHD) Newborn Screening Project developed processes for CCHD screening that would set the stage for improved health outcomes for newborns with CCHD and their families. It also focused on addressing the psychosocial needs of parents and families that receive a CCHD diagnosis. As a part of this work, the CCHD Screening Project collected regional and national resources to assist families in need, as well as recommended books, articles, and other publications that they can use.
