Professional Background

Julie Smith is a family support specialist and clinic coordinator whose focus is on interdisciplinary teaming and diagnosis of autism in young children.  In addition to her present role as a family faculty member in the NH-ME LEND program, she is employed by the Child Development Clinic at Child Health Services in Manchester, New Hampshire.  She began her work supporting families at the Seacoast Child Development Clinic from 2008-2017.  A parent of a young man with autism spectrum disorder, she brings a wealth of knowledge about the family experience from diagnosis through transition into adulthood. As a parent leader and advocate, she has served on her area agency’s family advisory council for over ten years and participated in numerous committees focused on autism and disability. She has facilitated two autism parent education groups. Presently, she leads a parent group focused on the support of young adults and teens transitioning to adulthood.  She is a 2006 graduate of the NH Leadership Series and a 2018 graduate of the NH-ME LEND program.
