Founded in 1980 and part of Manchester Community Health Center (MCHC) since 2014, Child Health Services is dedicated to eliminating health disparities and improving the health and well-being of at-risk children and youth in New Hampshire. Child Health Services is the pediatric arm of MCHC where about 44% of patients’ do not use English as their primary language. In addition to primary health care, the organization offers behavioral health, case management, nutrition services, and family support services provided by a Community Health Worker. Child Health Services at MCHC is the home of four special medical programs provided through Special Medical Services as part of NH’s Title V Programs for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs, supported by the NH Department of Health and Human Services, Bureau of Developmental Services. More than 1500 children throughout the state are enrolled in the Special Medical Programs at Child Health Services at MCHC.
A long-standing NH-ME LEND clinical partner, Child Health Services at MCHC provides trainees with opportunities to learn about culturally and linguistically sensitive pediatric specialty care services including: (a) comprehensive health coordination; (b) consultations to promote best practices for nutrition, feeding and swallowing; (c) comprehensive diagnostic evaluations for developmental and behavioral differences such as autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, developmental delays, and learning disabilities; and (d) comprehensive evaluation, consultation and care coordination regarding neuromotor and complex medical conditions. Services are designed to support families to make informed decisions regarding their child’s medical, developmental, and educational needs.
