Become a Certified Crisis Responder and help individuals, children, youth, and families in their time of need.
What do Crisis Responders do?
- Assist those who cannot be de-escalated via phone, text, or chat by the 988/Access Point Crisis Operators
- Meet people in crisis in the community before they need higher levels of care (e.g., hospital emergency department)
- Support individuals in behavioral health crisis who aren’t currently getting services or whose services aren’t available
Rapid Response teams...
- Must respond to a request from the NH Rapid Response Access Point within five minutes
- Will call you prior to coming to see you or your loved one
- Can take up to one hour to get to where you want to meet
- Offer telehealth if you are further away
- Send two (or more) responders to the meeting location

Where do Crisis Responders work?
- Crisis Responders in New Hampshire are part of Rapid Response teams at the ten Community Mental Health Centers statewide
- At the two current NHRR Crisis Centers in Plymouth and Derry, NH
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- No minimum education requirements (high school diploma/GED not required)
- No previous experience in the behavioral health field required
- Must be eligible to work in the state of New Hampshire in-person
The NH RRCT curriculum meets the training and certification needs of new Rapid Response team members. All newly hired crisis responders as of June 30, 2024 will be required to complete this training program. Current Rapid Response team members who have completed the existing 40-hour Carelon training curriculum are welcome to take the training and be certified through this process but are not required.
The curriculum is intended to meet the training needs of a diverse array of professionals, from Master’s level clinicians to adults embarking on a new career pathway. The pre-enrollment and pre-employment modules ensure those currently entering the workforce and those interested in entering the workforce do so with a full understanding of the course and the role of crisis responders statewide.

Pre-Enrollment Module
All trainees
One-hour asynchronous training module provides an overview of the curriculum and the role of a crisis responder to ensure enrollees have a comprehensive understanding of the job and Rapid Response program prior to enrollment.
Pre-Employment Module
Trainees not currently employed on a Rapid Response team
Trainees not currently employed on a Rapid Response team/CMHC will be required to complete a 2.5-hour pre-employment module curriculum in addition to the pre-enrollment module.
The pre-employment module provides an overview of the Crisis Now Model, a brief orientation to the NH behavioral health and Rapid Response system, and a certified crisis responder job preview.
