Community Crossroads, valued as a long-time partner of the NH-ME LEND program, has offered numerous opportunities for trainees in leadership and clinical experiences for almost a decade. As one of the 10 New Hampshire designated area agencies, it is responsible for supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and adults with acquired brain disorders. Located in Atkinson, NH, they serve over 1,600 individuals and families in southern New Hampshire and throughout the state. During the past eight years they have expanded their services to include individuals in need of long-term supports—including adults and children who experience chronic health conditions—through the Choices for Independence and Partners in Health programs. Additionally, as an extension of their supportive mission, Community Crossroads offers access to an oral health program for those served by the agency and educates practitioners to provide better care for individuals with disabilities.
Community Crossroads hosted their first LEND trainee, Karen Blake, Director of Public Policy and Advocacy for Community Support Network, Inc., in 2013. LEND trainees continue to participate annually in the Policy Partners Program to build their leadership skills in public policy and legislation. Jennifer Bertrand (LEND 2015), Director of Community Partnerships, noted, “Our LEND trainees have become policy change agents who are actively formulating solutions to remove barriers and increase opportunities so citizens with disabilities can enjoy meaningful, healthy, and productive lives.”
Dennis Powers, Chief Executive Officer, noted that before joining their partnering community health agency, Julie Benjamin Lago (LEND 2010) gained an appreciation for collaboration around complex needs during her LEND placement. Other LEND alumni include Alicia Buono (LEND 2017), Marketing Specialist, and Kathy Wahl (LEND 2013), Family Support Coordinator. Kathy was recently recognized on behalf of Community Crossroads by Citizens Bank for outstanding family support and guidance of a client’s parent through the guardianship and benefits process.
