Over the last 40 years, the search for effective mental health services for people with IDD has been conducted with mixed results. However, some best practices have arisen from opportunities for research that included active engagement with patient partners and their families. Unfortunately, dissemination has historically been limited to organizations that may require membership to access the information and best practices information that results from this research.
The goal of this series is to create an open access forum where the results of these efforts to improve the effectiveness of mental health services can be presented. This series will provide hands-on tools and resources with the aim of improving services in our community, setting the stage for future research partnership, dialogue, and development.
Engagement partners/self-advocates will be included in every forum. Each 90-minute session will include 45 minutes of didactic presentation and 45 minutes of dialogue.
It is our hope that the learning community format will allow for widespread dissemination and inspire all. The materials presented will be in the public domain, allowing for ready access.
This series is sponsored by Georgetown University UCEDD at the Thrive Center, in collaboration with the National Research Consortium on Mental Health in IDD. It is our hope that participants will be interested in taking a more active role in future positive change as an evidence-based community of practice.
