Building Futures Together prepares paraprofessionals in healthcare and school settings to provide specialized, enhanced care coordination for children, youth, and caregivers impacted by opioid and other substance use disorders.

Building Futures Together is a U.S. Department of Labor–registered apprenticeship program. Trainees receive hands-on, on-the-job training and classroom instruction to build skills in behavioral health care coordination.

Each trainee may receive a stipend of up to $13,500 to help offset program participation costs. Graduates earn a certificate from the University of New Hampshire and a nationally recognized U.S. Department of Labor Certificate in Behavioral Health.

Next Cohort: Begins May 2026

This cohort will focus on training individuals to work with pregnant people or families with infants and young children that are impacted by substance use, age birth through 5. We will accept 18–20 trainees for this cohort.

Applications will be accepted until all spots are filled. Preference will be given to applicants based on meeting the eligibility requirements for the program and the date their application was received.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Work in a paraprofessional behavioral health role, including (but not limited to): mental health worker, peer support specialist, community health worker, outreach worker, recovery coach, youth worker, or social services aide
  • Be motivated to advance their career in behavioral health
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
    Please do not apply if you hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree
  • Be 18 years or older and a U.S. citizen or permanent resident

Applicants with behavioral health–related lived experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
