Strategic Plan
May 29, 2009
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
Five years ago, the Institute on Disability (IOD) launched its first Strategic Planning process by conducting a thorough review of our programs and operations, academic mission, and organizational relationships. We learned a lot about where we excelled and where we needed to focus in order to advance our mission of supporting people with disabilities to live as full members of their communities. The process was highly inclusive of UNH senior administrators, deans, faculty, and students; as well as diverse external stakeholders including state and community leaders; and IOD staff. The FY 2005-2008 IOD Strategic Plan included a revision of our Mission, Vision, and Values; it articulated Strategic Goals and Broad Strategies to achieve them; and it developed an organizational structure that effectively supported programs and activities as we moved forward.
We have spent the past year considering the next stage of our strategic development, revisiting the IOD’s structure and organizational framework in light of stakeholder interviews, economic changes, and other environmental trends. New priorities were established as a result of this process. One significant organizational change the IOD will undergo is the development of Priority Areas that focus on Inclusive Education, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Health and Genetics, Community Living and Employment, and Assistive Technology.
The Executive Summary of the FY 2010-2013 IOD Strategic Plan includes a description of IOD priorities and outlines organizational changes that will be made over the next four years. These changes reflect content and strategic initiatives that align with emerging national, regional, and state priorities in the field of disabilities and provide a framework for the IOD through 2013. This new framework will support us to combine our passion and commitment with the goals of informing policies and practices that support children and adults with disabilities and their families to live as full members of their communities.
We look forward to working with you to advance our common goals.
Sincerely,

Jan Nisbet, Ph.D.
