Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a counselling technique, and is a “way of being” with clients that embraces a partnership approach to creating changes in health-related behaviors. MI is being used increasingly by a variety of health care service providers and used in conjunction with care management and wellness services.

After the training, participants will:

  • Have an increased understanding the spirit and method of MI
  • Feel better prepared to work with clients on behavior change issues
  • Listen and respond to Change Talk
  • Be better able to evoke hope and confidence with clients

Presenter:

Cheryl Martin, Integrated Health Trainer & Clinical Consultant, is a Motivational Interviewing Network Trainer and provides training and coaching to organizations in the Rochester area and in other communities in New York State. Training content ranges from basic to advanced MI, as well as on the development of the coaching skills needed to support continued growth in using this approach effectively.
