Creating a Dementia-Friendly Home

Description:
Individuals with Alzheimer's disease or dementia are greatly affected by their environment. This training provides information on how environmental factors such as light, noise, and safety issues can affect an individual with dementia, along with many simple, low-cost modifications that can be made in most households. Participants will learn to conduct home assessments and make detailed recommendations for improving the home environment.

- Over-stimulation / Under-stimulation
- Falls, Clutter, & Hiding
- Interactive Dementia Exercise
Afternoon:
- Assessing the Environment

- Quality of Life
Who Should Attend:
Professionals, paraprofessionals, family members, and others who assist families in planning and caring for individuals with Alzheimer's or other related dementia are encouraged to attend.
This training is offered in partnership with the New Hampshire Bureau of Elderly and Adult Services. Funding for the development of this training was provided by the Federal Administration on Aging Alzheimer’s Disease Supportive Services Program through an Innovation Grant.
Presenter(s): Cathy Creapaux & Janet Dineen
Cathy Creapaux is the Manager of the NH Family Caregiver Support Program at the Bureau of Elderly and Adult Services. She has spent the last seven years working with caregivers.
Janet Dineen is an Information and Referral Specialist and a Certified Aging in Place Specialist.
