September 3, 2008 Press Release

Opportunity to Host FREE Screening of the Film Including Samuel with Filmmaker Dan Habib
DEADLINE: September 30, 2008
Durham, NH - The Institute on Disability (IOD) at the University of New Hampshire is pleased to offer the opportunity for free screenings of Including Samuel in ten New Hampshire school districts. Habib, Filmmaker in Residence at the IOD, will present the film at each school and facilitate or participate in an audience discussion afterward.
Including Samuel will serve as a catalyst at your school for an honest conversation about the cultural and systemic barriers to inclusion.
Before his son Samuel was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, photojournalist Dan Habib rarely thought about the inclusion of people with disabilities. Now he thinks about inclusion every day. Habib's nationally acclaimed documentary film, Including Samuel, honestly chronicles the Habib family's efforts to include Samuel in every facet of their lives. The film also features four other families with varied inclusion experiences, plus interviews with dozens of teachers, young people, parents and disability rights experts.
The film has been featured on NPR's All Things Considered and Good Morning America Now, as well as in the Washington Post and the Boston Globe. Visit www.includingsamuel.com for the film trailer and more information.
A screening of Including Samuel presented by Dan Habib would normally cost $1500 plus expenses. These free screenings are made possible by a generous grant from the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, along with technical support from NH Connections, a project sponsored by the NH Department of Education.
Each participating school will also receive a free copy of the Including Samuel educational package (DVD of the film licensed for educational and institutional use plus an extensive Viewers' Guide, a $180 value).
To be eligible to host a screening during the 2008-2009 school year, we require a school district to agree to the list of commitments below and to complete the application form (see link below) by September 30, 2008. Accepted schools will be notified by mid-October, and screenings will be held beginning in late fall 2008 through spring 2009.
If you have any questions regarding this application, please contact Stephanie Bernier at 603.228.2084 or stephanie.bernier@unh.edu.
Thank you for your consideration and submission. We look forward to the possibility of collaborating with you.
