Institute on Disability Introduces New Quarterly Newsletter

DURHAM, N.H. – The Institute on Disability (IOD) at the University of New Hampshire is pleased to announce the release of Vision & Voice, a quarterly news and event publication which describes the IOD’s efforts to support children and adults with disabilities in New Hampshire.

In the first issue, Vision and Voice touches on many facets of the IOD’s work. Feature stories include highlights from the Disability Policy Seminar in Washington, D.C., where members of the New Hampshire Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (NH-LEND) training program had the opportunity to advocate for autism legislation; an article on the IOD’s assistive technology “MacGyver;” and a look at how the Achievement in Dropout Prevention and Excellence (APEX) project is changing the lives of middle school and high school students in New Hampshire who are at risk for dropping out.

In addition, Vision and Voice illustrates ways in which individuals connected to the Institute’s mission work toward improving the quality of life in the Granite State. The IOD regularly works alongside the Institute for Genetics and Child Development at Dartmouth Medical School, the Institute for Health, Law, and Ethics at the Franklin Pierce Law Center, and the Center on Community Economic Development and Disability at Southern New Hampshire University to review and identify current and emerging issues facing children and adults with disabilities.

To request a copy of the newsletter by mail, or to be added to the IOD’s mailing list, please call 603.862.4320 or e-mail contact.iod@unh.edu.
