Inclusive Recreation Workshops Presented by UNH

Durham, NH – The Institute on Disability and Northeast Passage at the University of New Hampshire will be presenting two Inclusive Recreation workshops on Monday, June 19th at Canterbury Woods Country Club. Course instructor and Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, Matt Frye, will outline numerous simple yet effective ways recreation facilities and programs can accommodate individuals with disabilities while illustrating the importance and value of inclusive recreational programming. Designed for directors, management and staff of recreation service providers, these workshops will address many myths and misconceptions related to disabilities, strategies for meeting participant and organizational needs as well as the costs and benefits of implementing a variety of creative accommodations.

Founded in 1990, Northeast Passage is the service branch of the Recreation Management and Policy Department within the School of Health and Human Services at the University of New Hampshire. Its mission is to create environments where individuals with disabilities can recreate with the same freedom of choice, quality of life, and independence as their non-disabled peers. The fee to attend either of the two Reasonable Accommodation and Inclusive Recreation Workshops on June 19th is $75 per person. The workshops are being held from 9am to 12pm and 1pm to 4pm at Canterbury Country Club in Canterbury, NH.
