Under One Roof Project Improves Community Options for Individuals with Disabilities and their Families
DURHAM – A new five-year $1.25 million grant project awarded by the Administration on Developmental Disabilities will focus on improving options for individuals with disabilities and their families related to community participation, transition planning, and career and economic development in the towns of the eastern Monadnock region.
The Family Center of Greater Peterborough, in partnership with the Institute on Disability/UCED at UNH and the NH Developmental Disabilities Council, will implement the project, known as Under One Roof. One goal is to build community bridges on behalf of people of all ages with disabilities and their families that result in positive community engagement. Another is to continue development of the new community resource center located in downtown Peterborough that will support people of all ages and abilities living in eastern Monadnock region towns.
The project will work with other community organizations to provide services such as personal futures planning, information and referral with assistance and follow-up supports, and parent education and family support related to recreation, leadership training, transportation, and finances.
Services for individuals who are aged 14 and older will include transition planning assistance, positive community engagement, adolescent health education and health care, and a community job bank.
A minimum of 50 families with members who have disabilities will receive direct services during each year of the project as it demonstrates improved community engagement and individual and family outcomes.
The $1.25 million funds will be awarded annually in increments of $250,000 to the Family Center of Greater Peterborough.
